RP renews vow to fight corruption DESPITE being included by an international watchdog in its recent list of the most corrupt countries in the world, the Philippines renewed its commitment to fight corruption.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo, during the observance of International Anti-Corruption Day reaffirmed Manila’s commitment “to faithfully implement the provisions of the United Nation’s Convention Against Corruption.”
“The Philippine Government also emphasizes its resolve to forge ahead with its efforts to stamp out corrupt practices,” Romulo said as the country joined the international community in the annual observance of International Anti-Corruption Day today.
According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, over US$1 trillion is paid in bribes around the world every year.
Transparency International recently ranked the Philippines as the 10th most corrupt country in the world. ------ From: CONRAD ANGELES December 9, 2007 02:06am Email: BOYGIRLSANGELES@YAHOO.COM Saudi Arabia
Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo is not the right man to vow in fighting corruptions in the Philippine government. It is the president who has the right to say so. It is the president who must be the model in not indulging to corruption. So this kind of vow is just by words. How can he stopped corruption if the president is the one leading this illness. Do I need to elaborate how people's money are being spend by this administartion. Ok, citing one example was the latest talk of the town that several lawmakers at the lowerhouse went to Europe with a minimum budget of $9,000 for 7 days. First this matter was denied by those lawmakers and the people in the palace that it was a KKB or kanyan-kanyang bayad. Then later they said the trip was shouldered by the King of Spain. Now, how can Secretary Romulo stopped coruption in the Philippines. I want to take this oppurtunity too, last couple months when I was in the Philippines and renewing my driver's license I read in fron of the LTO office these big words " BEWARE OF FIXERS". I said to myelf, oh the Philippines is changing. After several hours of waiting my name was called because my license was finished and the security guard was the one who ahnded me my driver's license. To my surprised my change was not given to me back. So their's no changes yet, and this system once more proven that Philippines remain one of the corrupt country in the world. This matter was happened at the LTO office somewhere in Nueva Ecija. So I am calling the attention of Secretary or Asst. Secretary Reynaldo Berroya to invistigate this matter. Akala ko pa naman OK na yun pala ganun din. E paano kung ang pera nung tao ay 500 or 1000 peso bill, so walang ng sukli. LTO must do what the NSO is doing. NSO offices in Nueva Ecija say "PLEASE PREPARE EXACT AMOUNT" this more better than the former.
