On mail-order brides
Wednesday, 16 September 2009

The continued mail-order bride cases of Filipino women to Korea merely shows that existing good laws like the anti-trafficking of persons act is rendered useless by the failure of the agencies concerned to implement the same to its full extent thereby depriving our women the protection they need against abuse and exploitation.

On Charter-Change

Malacañang should not play deaf and mute and should not be blinded by selfish interest to perpetuate in power beyond their constitutional mandate.

Explanation of Vote of Rep. Cruz-Gonzalez on HR 1109
Monday, 22 June 2009

(HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1109 - A Resolution calling upon the Members of Congress to convene for the purpose of considering proposals to amend or revise the constitution, upon a vote of three-fourths of all the Members Congress.)

I OBJECT to the approval of House Resolution No. 1109 for the following reasons viz:

First, the period of debate and interpellation was closed abruptly and unceremoniously. Equity and fair play dictates that each one should be given the opportunity to ventilate his views on any issue, especially a contentious and very important one to the life of the nation, like charter change. The untimely stoppage of the said period of debate paved the way to the hasty approval of House Resolution no. 1109 without our legitimate and valid concerns heard on the floor.

President Arroyo’s trust ratings will continue to decrease while her distrust ratings continue to rise in the succeeding surveys because the government is not doing enough to address corruption.

On SEC Commissioner Martinez
Wednesday, 18 March 2009
The issue is SEC Commissioner Martinez’ alleged protection of and connection with the Legacy Group owned by Mayor delos Angeles and not CIBAC. Commissioner Martinez’ connection with CIBAC as nominee ended after the 2001 elections. He was not an official of CIBAC. CIBAC fought, is fighting and will always fight against any form of corruption. CIBAC supports any investigation and prosecution of erring officials in government for no one is above the law. CIBAC maintains its call for transparency and accountability in government for public office is a public trust. CIBAC represents the people’s battle against corruption and this has not changed.
