Joel Villanueva at Anak Mindanao Rep.

Solons to Pacquiao: Forget politics, stay in the ring
Tuesday, 09 December 2008

CIBAC partylist Rep. Joel Villanueva said it would be "an injustice" to take away Pacquiao from sports, but acknowledge his right to chose what to do.

"I think it'll be a great injustice to take away Manny Pacquiao from the world of sports after he showed his ability to single-handedly bring us not just global honor but give hope, and inspiration, and pride to each Filipino. He is the greatest at what he does and I don't think anything is better," said Villanueva.

"It's his right (to run for congressman), though," he added.

In text messages, lawmakers on Monday said they'd rather see Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao bringing glory to the country from inside the boxing ring than see him battle it out in Philippine politics after Quezon City Rep. Mary Ann Susano said on Monday that Pacquiao is considering running as congressman of Quezon City's second district in 2010.

Pinayuhan nina Citizens Battle Against Corruption Rep. Joel Villanueva at Akbayan Rep.

VILLANUEVA: The “politics” and “economics” of numbers again prevailed
Wednesday, 03 December 2008

Rep. Joel Villanueva, together with the members of Minority bloc led by Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, left the session hall after registering his "no" vote to dismiss the impeachment complaint on December 2, 2008. The following is his written explanation of vote against Committee Report 1515.

Four years ago, serious allegations have been thrown against Mrs. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo questioning her integrity, moral fitness, legitimacy and competence as President of the Philippines.

It started with her alleged involvement in electoral fraud in the 2004 elections. And not only did she cheat and lie, according to the complainants, but she even personally orchestrated acts of kidnapping, extortion and bribery to propagate herself in power. These were serious allegations so the people asked for her explanation, but she refused to give any and instead used her political stranglehold of the majority of this House to suppress the truth, in total disregard of justice and righteousness. So in the end, not a single answer was given; not a single issue of the 2005 Impeachment Complaint was ever resolved.

Five lawmakers have filed House Resolution (HR) No.  854 which seeks to investigate the main reasons behind fatal vehicular accidents involving over-speeding buses in the country.

Under HR No.  854, An Waray Rep.  Florencio “Bem” Noel asked the House committee on transportation to inquire on the said matter and determine the appropriate action to take in preventing the recurrence of similar accidents in the future.

“There is also a need to identify proper measures and actions to prevent the recurrence of vehicular accidents,” Noel said.

Anak Mindanao Rep. Mujiv S. Hataman claimed that several reforms regarding the attitude of bus drivers should be undertaken with dispatch.

“Negligence or fault of the bus drivers could be one of the top causes of such accidents,” Hataman said.
